The Wild Rose Retriever Club was formed in 1993 by a handful of hunters and retriever enthusiasts who wanted to train their own gun dogs and promote the use of retrievers as a conservation tool for hunting.
The group was headed by and encouraged by long time retriever enthusiast the late Norman Lee. Norm had field champions in the 1940’s and 1950’s.
Since its inception the club has continued to grow and remains an enthusiastic group which hosts an annual two day licensed field trial.
We are registered with the Alberta Registry and the Canadian Kennel Club. We are members of the National Retriever Club of Canada (NRCC)
We have active training groups ranging from puppies to all age competitors.
We do not have our own land to train on but we have access to a variety of private land surrounding Edmonton that we have permission to use.
Many of our members are actively involved in CKC field trials, hunt tests and working certificate tests. Some members have been very successful in Field trials and Hunt Tests. Some of our dogs have qualified and run in National Championships and National Amateur Championships in Field Trials and others have taken part in Master National Hunt Tests. Several of our members are qualified and have judged in many field trials and Hunt Tests including Nationals. Some have judged American trials as well. In 1999 Wild Rose hosted a very successful National Amateur Championship and in 2006 hosted the National Championship and we continue to be very active at the National level for this sport.
